Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN, the immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, has firmly refuted the groundless and damaging accusation that he played a role in crafting the judgment for the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) Judges.
Fashola, through his Special Adviser on Media, Hakeem Bello, issued a statement expressing his disappointment with the propagation of fake news on social media platforms.
The former minister urged security agencies to take decisive action against the individuals responsible for propagating false news.
Addressing the allegation, Fashola clarified that he has been absent from Abuja for an extended period, rendering the claims utterly baseless.
He denounced the individuals who are behind these unfounded claims, characterizing them as agents of destabilization.
Taking proactive steps, Fashola has initiated the process of lodging official complaints against offensive tweets and online reports. He has done so with both the management of the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter) and the National Communications Commission (NCC).
He pressed upon the relevant security agencies to approach this situation with the utmost gravity, as it directly challenges the essence of judicial autonomy.
The former Minister posited that these allegations might be part of a larger campaign designed to undermine the integrity of the judiciary, orchestrated by individuals aiming to manipulate the institution for personal gains.
He emphasized the significance of identifying the culprits and their backers, ensuring they face appropriate legal consequences.
Fashola called on the public to dismiss these baseless allegations and encouraged them to report any individuals involved in disseminating such perilous fabrications to the relevant security authorities.
