Popular Journalist NonsoNkwa Abducted by Gunmen in Owerri

In a shocking incident on Thursday morning, unknown gunmen abducted the well-known broadcast journalist, Chinonso Uba, also known as Nonso Nkwa, in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

Shortly after Uba had completed his morning show on Ozisa FM, which is located in the Assumpta Cathedral of the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, he was ambushed by armed assailants at the Holy Ghost College junction while driving in his Highlander jeep.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen operated using a Hilux vehicle, a Lexus 350 jeep, and an ES 330 car. They swiftly blocked Uba’s path, forcefully took him from his vehicle, and forcibly drove him away in one of their own vehicles. The identity and motive of the kidnappers remain unknown as the authorities launch investigations into the abduction.

According to a source, “Chinonso Uba has been kidnapped. He was double-crossed by masked men in two vehicles. He drove out of Ozisa FM after he finished anchoring his morning program. He was traced to the Holy Ghost College Secondary School junction, where he was abducted.

“He resisted them as he was shouting they want to kill him before he was taken away in one of their vehicles. His jeep was not taken alongside. They were all dressed in black and blue attires, carrying guns while they were masked. They prevented people from making video of the incident. Let nothing happen to him, please.”

The manager of Ozisa FM, Rev. Fr Raymond Nzereogu, who confirmed the incident, said that he was yet to ascertain if the journalist was arrested or kidnapped.

“The priest said, “we don’t know if he was arrested or kidnapped. We have reached out to the State Security Service people and they said that they were not responsible. We are heading to the police to confirm. We will keep you posted on any further development.”

When reached out to, the Police representative in the State, Henry Okoye, stated that he was in a gathering.
