NLC Gives Seven-Day Nationwide Strike Notice

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has given the Federal Government a seven-day ultimatum to reverse all perceived anti-poor policies, including the recent increase in the pump price of petrol. Failure to comply will result in an indefinite nationwide strike commencing on August 2.

This decision was reached during the NLC’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at Abuja Labour House on Tuesday.

The NLC has instructed all its affiliates and state councils to immediately begin mobilizing workers and other Nigerians, along with civil society allies, in preparation for a prolonged strike and mass protests if the government does not meet their demands.

It’s worth noting that an industrial court had previously granted an interim order restraining the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress from embarking on a strike in June.
