On Tuesday, both the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) and students of Osun State Polytechnic Iree joined forces to protest the removal of their Rector, Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo, by Governor Ademola Adeleke. They were also against the appointment of a kinsman of the Governor as the replacement.
According to the report, the Osun State Government suspended the Rector through a letter dated July 11, 2023. The letter reads: “You are hereby appointed as the acting Rector of the Osun State Polytechnic Iree. The appointment takes immediate effect. We wish you a successful tenure of office.”
In response, students and ASUP leaders gathered at the institution’s gate with placards and banners, expressing their discontent with the developments. They closed the gate, refusing to allow any activities on the school premises.
Their main grievances were directed at the Governor, accusing him of nepotism and disapproving of the appointment of a kinsman from Ede as the new Rector.
