Family of murdered Anambra lady demands justice, insists daughter wasn’t thief

The grieving family of Chinyere Awuda, who tragically passed away in a hotel in Awka, Anambra State, has raised their voice for justice to be served, ensuring that their beloved daughter and sister can rest in peace.

Chinyere allegedly lost her life due to a brutal beating at the hotel, inflicted by some revelers who accused her of stealing money they were spraying on their birthday celebrant.

Pa Patrick Awuda, the father of the deceased, expressed his anguish to reporters on Monday, vehemently denying any claims that his daughter was a thief, as no evidence supported such accusations.

The 79-year-old man stressed that Chinyere, a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, did not deserve such a tragic end. He called upon the relevant authorities to take action and ensure that those responsible for her death are brought to justice.

Describing the death of the daughter as shocking and devastating, the septuagenarian said, “I called to check on my daughter as usual because she would always call every morning to speak with me but the line wasn’t connecting.

“I then called my son who contacted her friend. We were later taken to the hotel but were made to wait until 4pm when a Police team came and asked if we wanted to see Chinyere.

“They took us to the abandoned swimming pool and led me in and I saw the lifeless body of Chinyere with physical injuries, but refused us to take pictures and quickly moved her to the morgue.

“My daughter is a likeable person, she is not a thief as alleged, no evidence to show that she stole, she is a murder victim, that is why we are calling for a thorough investigation of this matter.

“A lot is being said about the cause of my daughter’s death, even the hotel is operating. We ask for an investigation to establish the real cause of her death and it should be made public.

The elder brother of the deceased, Ekene Awuda, revealed that the family had the opportunity to view the CCTV video footage of the incident that led to her untimely demise.

According to Ekene, the video clip clearly depicted that she was beaten to death, evident from the injuries found on her body and head as observed in the morgue.

“The killers of our sister must not go unpunished and we have confidence in the security operatives that those that murdered our sister would be made to face the law.

“This is the hight of inhuman treatments against our sister and we the family members would not take it like that,” he fumed.
