The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported significant achievements by Nigerian troops in their operations against terrorists and bandits across different theatres of operation in North East, North Central, and North West regions.
During a press briefing in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, highlighted the operational successes accomplished in the past two weeks through various land and air operations.
In the North East, troops from Operation Hadin Kai successfully neutralized terrorists and apprehended high-profile terrorist collaborators in Mafa, Kukawa, and Konduga Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Borno State.
Additionally, due to the relentless pursuit against them, some active terrorists and fighters chose to surrender to the troops, expressing their disinterest in continuing with the terrorist ideology.
Furthermore, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted several air operations, effectively targeting terrorist enclaves and disrupting their logistics bases, causing significant damage to their capabilities
One notable air operation involved air reconnaissance and intelligence gathering on terrorist hideouts in Hyawa, Borno, which resulted in the successful bombing of their locations.
“After, action review revealed that many of the terrorists were neutralized and their structures destroyed.
“In the course of operations, troops recovered seven AK 47 rifles, two FN rifles, one 36 hand grenade, 100 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammo, two mobile phones, foodstuff, condiment, one cart, and the sum of N2.1 million.
“Troops equally neutralized six terrorists and arrested eight suspected terrorist collaborators as well as rescued 10 kidnapped civilians during these operations,” he said.
In the North Central region, the troops of Operation Safe Haven conducted successful raids on criminal hideouts, leading to the recovery of weapons in Mangu and Jos South Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
Meanwhile, the troops of Operation Whirl Stroke carried out separate operations, raiding kidnappers’ hideouts in Duduguru village, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and Chinkai Forest in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. These operations resulted in the rescue of kidnapped victims and the neutralization of nine bandits. Additionally, ten suspects were apprehended, and arms were recovered during these missions.
Moving to the North West, the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji conducted raids on bandit hideouts in various locations, including Batsari, Tangaza, and Maru Local Government Areas of Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara States. These operations led to the elimination of numerous terrorists and the arrest of six Nigerien terrorists and five others in different locations.
In support of these ground operations, the air component carried out several air operations to degrade terrorist groups and disrupt their logistics bases, thereby restricting their freedom of action.
Furthermore, during the same period, the troops of Operation Whirl Punch executed an ambush operation, successfully neutralizing several terrorists in Igabi Local Government Area.
