DSS Criticizes Lawyers Filing Contempt Charges as "Charge and Bail lawyers"

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Department of State Services (DSS) referred to the lawyers who filed contempt charges against DSS Director-General, Yusuf Bichi, regarding the prolonged detention of former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, as “charge and bail lawyers.”

The DSS took to their official Twitter handle to express their opinion, stating that the legal team was led by an “overzealous and uninformed IPOB/ESN lawyer.”

The service said, “Charge and bail, overzealous and uninformed IPOB/ESN lawyer Maxwell Okpara mobilizes other like-minded lawyers against DGSS. Futile Efforts. Well, Nigerians, beware! This is in bad faith. Transferred aggression.

“A Biafran Republic agitator and Outlawed IPOB counsel defending the suspended CBN Governor. Is IPOB defending one of theirs?

“What a contradiction. what’s the connection? Is someone telling us something? May Maxwell be properly educated on points of law, please.”

According to the report, a group of lawyers has filed a contempt charge against Bichi, accusing him of disregarding several court judgments and orders instructing the release of Emefiele from the custody of the agency. Notably, Maxwell Okpara, one of the legal representatives of Nnamdi Kanu, the controversial leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, is leading the group of lawyers.
