Vote buying: Ogun PDP demands release of police report on Abiodun

The Ogun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the state police command to submit the report on the investigation of governor Dapo Abiodun on allegation of vote buying to the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

The party said, the submission of the report would allow for the “speedy” prosecution of the governor over alleged vote buying and voters’harassment and intimidation during the March 18 governorship election in the state.

PDP and it’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu had in a petition to the IGP demanded the investigation of Abiodun the All Progressives Congress (APC) for alleged vote buying, electoral violence and voters’ intimidation during the election.

PDP in a statement by the Director of media, Ladi Adebutu campaign organisation, Afolabi Orekoya in Abeokuta on Friday accused Abiodun of “putting pressure on the Ogun state commissioner of police and his officers to suppress the release and distort the findings of the investigation ordered by the IGP”.

The party called on the state commissioner of police to submit the report of the investigation, warning that it would not accept any distorted and manipulated report.

“The President had at the ECOWAS Summit before the whole world pledge his commitment to democracy and the rule of law. The rule of law is the equal treatment of all before the law without bias and favouritism, irrespective of political affiliation.

“We believe how the report of this investigation is handled will be a litmus test of that commitment and pledge before the whole world.

“We warn that findings of the investigation should not be tampered with and distorted.

“Let the world know what transpired days before and during the March 18, 2023 governorship election In Ogun State.

“The interim report of the APC petition against us have been submitted and released. Let the report of our own be submitted and released. What is good for the gander is good for the goose”, the party said.
