Guinness World Records cautions against any attempts that have not been approved

The Guinness World Records (GWR) has issued a warning to Nigerians who are actively attempting to break various records across different categories. This cautionary message was conveyed during an exchange on Twitter with a Nigerian individual who informed GWR about their intentions to pursue two record-breaking feats.

The warning comes shortly after GWR advised Nigerians to seek confirmation before undertaking any record-breaking attempts.

Following Hilda Baci’s remarkable 100-hour cook-a-thon challenge in May, many other Nigerians became inspired and initiated a flood of record-breaking endeavors. GWR has officially recognized Baci as the record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual), achieving an impressive time of 93 hours and 11 minutes. Additionally, a Nigerian masseuse, Joyce Ijeoma, had to end her 72-hour attempt for the longest massage on different individuals after collapsing at the 50-hour mark.

Ezinne Okoye, through her Instagram page, hinted at commencing a 130-hour Fry-a-ton, aiming for the longest frying marathon by an individual. Similarly, Oluwatobi Kufeji embarked on the longest singing marathon.

Another aspiring artist, Sugartee, had proposed a 72-hour kiss-a-Thon, but the Ekiti State government banned the upcoming event, citing moral reasons.

The record-breaking attempts have sparked a mixed response on social media, with some expressing criticism toward this development.

GWR said: “Please, enough with the record-a-thons.

“We love the record-a-thon enthusiasm but we would suggest getting a record title approved by our team before attempting these marathon records!”
