Exclusive By David Kabiyesi

Unknown to Austin JayJay Okocha, while he is busy cooling off in his hotel room counting down hours to this night 2026 FÎFA World Cup draws which will see African teams pruned down into nine groups, he is already being celebrated as Nigeria’s new sports minister in far-away Cameroon.

While Nigerians are still keeping their fingers crossed in anticipation of who will grab a portfolio in President Bola Tinubu’s government, the news of Okocha’s appointments as Sunday Dare’s successor is traveling fast like wildfire in Yaounde, Limbe, Douala, Garoua, and other Cameroonian cities.

In fact, over 20 websites and Facebook accounts of different news feeds in the country have continued to share the story to the excitement of Cameroonians who derive pleasure in seeing ex-internationals calling the shots in public office just like in the case of Samuel Eto Fils.

iwitnesslive.com impeccable source in Ngaoundere, Cameroon, Jean Besane revealed on Thursday afternoon that Jay Jay is currently the most trending story in the country at the moment.

“Good morning brother. Please, I would like to know if Jay Jay Okocha has been appointed as minister of sports by President Tinubu. Thank you,” asked Besane.

The report has once thrown up debate if it would be the right step in the right direction to have Okocha as sports minister because, to many, the whole list just didn’t just add up.

One, Okocha’s personality as a quiet and easygoing person means he may not be ready for the knocks and rigor of managing ministerial appointments. Two, he doesn’t seems interested given it’s demands. Or could it be one of Asiwaju’s political wild cards?

Until then, we keep our fingers crossed. Below are some of the links
