Rita Edochie, a renowned Nollywood actress, has made a plea to the Nigerian government, urging them to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Nnamdi Kanu was apprehended in Kenya on June 27 and subsequently extradited to Nigeria. He had previously fled the country in 2017 while facing charges related to treason and terrorism.
The detention of Nnamdi Kanu has ignited protests and violence in the South East region of Nigeria. Taking to Instagram, Rita Edochie expressed her belief that once the federal government releases Nnamdi Kanu, the unrest in the South East will come to an end.
She admonished the government to refrain from playing with people’s lives, particularly while their own children are residing abroad.
She wrote:
“Release Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu today and see the unrest in the South East become history.
Stop playing with people’s life, especially all you Elites. That your children are overseas and you are using other people’s children to create unrest.
If you are one of them your generation and generation to come will never no peace”.
