Man in Ebonyi sentenced to death by hanging

A 26-year-old man named Offor Okike has been sentenced to death by hanging for his involvement in an armed robbery.

The incident occurred on April 2, 2019, at Elias Odili Street, off Adazienu junction, in Abakaliki, where Okike robbed Lydia Nwuba, a resident of the state, of her Toyota Corolla.

During the trial, the prosecution team successfully presented compelling evidence that proved Okike’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Consequently, Justice Chinyere Ken-Eze, the presiding judge, convicted Okike on the charge of armed robbery, as stipulated by section 1(2)(a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act cap R11, Volume 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

During the robbery, Okike had forcefully taken the woman’s Toyota Corolla car, which was valued at N1.8 million, along with a Nokia handset worth N18,000 and N2,000 in cash.

The judge sentenced the convict to death by hanging and told him that, “The sentence of death upon you, Offor Okike, is that you be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May the Lord have mercy on your soul.”
