In Osun, man took his own life due to partial blindness

Tragically, on Monday, Kareem Aderemi took his own life using a locally-made firearm. It was discovered that Aderemi had been struggling with Parkinson’s disease and partial blindness for several months leading up to the incident.

Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), said, “On 10th July 2023 around 12:50 PM, at Alapo’s compound, Ede, Ede North Local Government Area, one Kareem Aderemi, aged 72, of 45, Alapo’s compound, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself on the lower jaw with a local barrel.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that late Aderemi had been battling with Parkinson’s and partial eye problems without adequate care. He had been in deep thought for months now before he allegedly committed suicide.

“It is pertinent to state that late Aderemi had his licensed barrel and he had always been with his barrel since he partially lost his sight but no one knew he had a cartridge with which he used to kill himself.”

The authorities at the Divisional Headquarters of the Nigeria Police in Ede North have taken possession of the firearm, and plans are underway to conduct a burial in accordance with Islamic customs for the deceased.
