UI student emerges winner of the 2023 Princess Diana Award

Odedele, the youngest Nigerian to receive the prestigious 2023 Princess Diana Award, has made history. As a student journalist and sophomore medical student at the College of Medicine UI, Odedele’s outstanding humanitarian actions earned him recognition among 188 other young leaders and visionaries hailing from 31 countries worldwide.

Established in memory of the beloved Princess of Wales, Diana, the award is bestowed by the charity bearing her name to commend young individuals for their remarkable contributions to humanity. Supported by Princess Diana’s sons, His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, and The Duke of Sussex, the award holds immense significance.

Odedele’s win stems from his impactful social initiatives and his involvement with a social enterprise. Two years ago, he established Students on LinkedIn, aiming to bridge the knowledge gap surrounding LinkedIn for university students. Odedele offers valuable resources on professional networking, enhancing employability, and optimizing the use of LinkedIn.

The exuberant Odedele expressed his joy, describing the moment as surreal for him.

He said: “It feels good to be recognised for good work; putting Nigeria on the global stage.

“And if there is anything to be proud of, it’s the fact that my leadership has inspired my peers to take responsibility for societal challenges in their campus communities.

“I’m also glad that one of my visions for campus communities in Nigeria got global recognition. All glory to God!”
