While Subomi Balogun is laid to rest, Tinubu, Abiodun, Amosun, others bid their final farewell

Prominent Nigerian figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun, ex-Governors Segun Osoba, Senator Gbenga Daniel, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and other notable individuals from the financial institutions, gathered on Saturday to pay their respects to the late founder of the First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Otunba Michael Olasubomi Balogun. Balogun, aged 89, passed away on May 18 in London after a brief illness.

His funeral service, held in Ijebu Ode, drew dignitaries from various professions, faiths, and businesses.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, spoke highly of the deceased, recognizing him as a prominent banker, lawyer, and role model for generations of bankers.

Tinubu expressed his acknowledgment of the significant contributions made by the late banking industry tycoon, which would be deeply missed.

Governor Dapo Abiodun paid tribute to Otunba Balogun, describing him as a role model, intellectual, and exemplary human being.

Abiodun highlighted Balogun’s contributions to the banking sector, Ijebuland, and the church, emphasizing the void left by his passing.

In a message titled “The Righteous Will Be Separated from the Wicked on the Judgment Day,” Most Rev. Olusina Fape, the Diocesan Bishop of Remo Anglican Diocese, delivered a sermon referencing Matthew 13: 24-30. Fape described death as a debt that everyone must pay, emphasizing that wealth does not hinder one’s ability to reach heaven.

He urged wealthy individuals to prioritize serving God and lead meaningful lives.

The Bishop acknowledged Otunba Balogun as a highly respected and humble individual, noting his close association with the church and his positive impact on his generation as a committed Christian.
