SEC to enlighten FRSC officers on capital market

To promote financial literacy, develop the capital market, and attract more investors, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) plans to host an awareness program titled “Investor Safety” for officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) across various formations in Nigeria.

Scheduled to take place on July 5th, 2023, the program will be held in Enugu, Lagos, Osun, Port-Harcourt, and Benin. This event marks the third installment of initiatives aimed at enlightening FRSC officers about the workings of the capital market.

According to the SEC’s statement, the officers will receive education on various investment options available in the capital market, learn to identify and avoid Ponzi schemes, understand the roles and functions of the SEC, gain insights into Non-Interest Finance, and familiarize themselves with the complaints management framework.

“The Commission is organizing the event in collaboration with the Fund Managers Association of Nigeria (FMAN) to also expose the Officers to legitimate channels of investments and the Association of Dealing Houses of Nigeria (ASHON) to address issues that relate to investments and unclaimed dividends and other related matters.

“This enlightenment program is part of our commitment to developing the capital market, appraising investors of the products available in the market as well as our functions and roles in restoring investors’ confidence” SEC stated.

The first phase of the program was conducted on November 30, 2022, at the SEC Head Office in Abuja, specifically for the FRSC Abuja Sector Command. Over 50 officers attended the session, where they shared their investment experiences in the capital market before the 2008 financial crisis and discussed Ponzi schemes.

On May 9, 2023, the second phase of the program was organized for officers from six formations of the FRSC located in Adamawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kwara, and Bauchi States.
