The Yoruba movie industry mourns the loss of one of its veterans as Sidikat Odunkanwi, professionally known as Iyabo Oko, has sadly passed away. The news of her demise was announced by her daughter, Bisi Aisha, via an emotional post on Instagram.
In her heartfelt message, Bisi Aisha wrote, “It is well with your soul, mummy. Rest in peace.” The somber announcement on social media reveals the deep sorrow felt by the family and fans of Iyabo Oko, as they bid farewell to a beloved actress.
Prior to her passing, the 62-year-old actress had been battling with ill-health, which led her to take a significant hiatus from the movie industry. This period of her life was marked by challenges and health struggles.
In 2022, the actress sparked controversy when news of her death spread, only for her to miraculously return to life three hours later, leaving many in disbelief.
Known by various stage names such as “Iyabo Oko,” “Apoti Aje,” and “Sisi Mama,” Sidikat had made a significant impact in the Yoruba movie industry.
Last year, one of her daughters, Olamide, revealed that her mother had been diagnosed with ischaemic stroke approximately five years ago. Despite her health battles, Iyabo Oko chose to keep her condition private, shielding it from the public eye.
During her difficult times, Yoruba Nollywood stars such as Foluke Daramola, Iyabo Ojo, Bolaji Amusan, Mercy Aigbe, Biodun Okeowo, and others extended their financial assistance, offering support and solidarity.
