Arsenal have secured the signing of Kai Havertz and the German has sent an emotional goodbye message to Chelsea.
Kai Havertz has said goodbye to Chelsea having completed his big move to London rivals Arsenal on Wednesday night.
After weeks of rumours, Havertz has finalised his move across London with Arsenal announcing his arrival.
The Guardian report that Arsenal have struck a deal worth £65million for Havertz, the first of three major signings Mikel Arteta wants imminently.
Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber are wanted too with Arsenal seeking to chase Manchester City again next season.
Havertz is moving on for a little less than in 2020, having left Bayer Leverkusen to join Chelsea for £72million in 2020.
Havertz scored a Champions League-winning goal against Manchester City in 2021 but it’s maybe fair to say that he didn’t live up to the hype.
Unable to really lock down one position at Chelsea, Havertz will be hoping for more consistent success under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.
This move will be a tricky one for Chelsea fans to process.
On the one hand, Havertz scored the goal that brought the Champions League back to Stamford Bridge.
On the other, Havertz is now joining a London rival in Arsenal and wasn’t able to live up to his price tag.
Fans have been sharing their mixed opinions and players who featured with Havertz at Chelsea have been taking to Instagram to react too.
Reece James recited part of a chant about Havertz winning Chelsea the Champions League whilst Tammy Abraham simply called him a ‘legend’.
Trevoh Chalobah and Callum Hudson-Odoi both wished Havertz the best of luck as he joins Chelsea’s London rivals, with the German no doubt hoping to shine.
