Nigerian Musician, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has won the award for Best International Act at the 2023 edition of Black Entertainment Awards (BET).
The ‘African Giant’ crooner beat other musicians such as Aya Nakamura, Central Cee, Ella Mai, and Ayra Starr, among others to clinch the most coveted category of BET awards.
Other nominees in the category included Stormzy, K.O, L7nnon, Tiakola and Uncle Waffles.
Though Burna Boy was absent at the show, his announcement as the winner received resounding applause.
It has been an amazing journey for Bunaboy in the last couple of years. His 2022 album ‘Love, Damini’ was a worldwide success, and he won a BET Award in the same category in 2019 and 2021.
Burna Boy, last week, attained the milestone of becoming the first African musician to cross one billion streams on Audiomack.
On Thursday, a message of congratulations was sent to the Nigerian via its Twitter account by Audiomack, a music streaming service that enables producers to freely share a limitless amount of music and podcast content.
The message read: “Congratulations, Burna Boy on becoming the first African Artist to hit 1 billion Audiomack streams.”
The Afrobeats singer made history earlier this month when he became the first African performer to headline a solo show in a stadium in the UK, according to Rolling Stone UK.
