Adire, Ankara shines on Brazilian runway

By David Kabiyesi

Good times are here for producers and lovers of Adire and Ankara as the two Nigerian fabrics became the center of attention at the first edition of African Fashion Week (AFW) held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Stunned by different styles on display, the international fashion show held at the Expo Center Norte, Sao Paulo saw attendants held spellbound by Ankara and Adire fabrics- thanks to Nigerian designers who dugged deeper into their design books of tricks to come out with styles that saw many turning their neck in envy.

The essence of the three-day event is to showcase Africa’s cultural heritage and promote its richness as well as, trade and investment in the fashion industry.

The show, which was organized by Queen Aderonke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, in partnership with the Chairman of Brazil Chamber of Commerce and Chief Executive Officer of FeaFro Institute, Brazil, featured designers from all the fashion capitals of the world – London, Paris, Ghana, and Nigeria.

She then expressed her delight and relief at seeing Adire from Nigeria take the center of attraction at the three-day show.  “It’s a great thing indeed for Nigeria as Adire is now being sought for across the globe,” she said
