Still basking in the euphoria of Nigeria’s qualification for 2023 AFCON, Super Eagles gaffer, Jose Peseiro has shed more light into why he opted to substitute Osimhen and Joe Aribo.
The Portuguese tactician revealed that his substitutions were triggered by injuries, adding that Aribo had requested to be pulled out when he cropped up an injury in the 71st minutes of the game while Osimhen was also called to rest 10 minutes later when had knocks.
“I try to improve the team. Of course, Aribo it was due to injury and asked to go out. Osimhen also felt something in the leg,” Peseiro told reporters.
“The others I tried to give more power, energy and quality to fight till the end because Sierra Leone in that moment didn’t create many opportunities but (later) they attacked and pressurized us and they did very well”. he said at the post-match press conference
