America rapper, Pokey, slumps, dies while performing on stage

Big Pokey, the renowned American rapper whose real name was Milton Powell, has tragically passed away at the age of 45.

During a performance at a bar in Beaumont, Texas, the Houston-born rapper suddenly collapsed on stage late Saturday night.

Videos from the event captured the moment when Pokey, holding a microphone and engaging with a DJ, took a heavy breath, stumbled, and fell on stage.

Security personnel and a self-professed nurse swiftly rushed to his aid, providing immediate assistance. Following their efforts, Pokey was transferred to the hospital shortly after midnight upon the arrival of emergency medical services. Sadly, the rapper was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A statement on the rapper’s verified Instagram page confirmed his death. The statement read;

“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Milton ‘Big Pokey’ Powell.

“Big Pokey passed away … He was well-loved by his family, his friends, and his loyal fans. In the coming days, we will release information about his celebration of life and how the public can pay their respects. We ask that you respect his family and their privacy during this difficult time. Big Pokey will forever be ‘The Hardest Pit in the Litter!’”

Pokey rose to fame after his collaboration with DJ Screw, pioneering the renowned chopped-and-screwed style that became a sensation in the South. Throughout his career, the talented rapper released numerous acclaimed discographies, leaving behind a rich musical legacy even after his untimely passing.
