Ogun is now without legislative arm, PDP laments

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described the abrupt postponement of the 10th Legislature of the House of Assembly in the State as lack of respect for democracy, saying Ogun remains the only state without a legislative arm in Nigeria.

The inauguration of the Assembly slated for Tuesday was postponed abruptly following leadership crisis at the House.

The Publicity Secretary of PDP in the State, Akinloye Bankole, in a statement on Wednesday described the postponement as a “civilian dictatorship” allegedly exhibited by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

According to him, Ogun State is the only State in Nigeria that is without the legislative arm as of today and this is not only dangerous to a democratic system but it has inadvertently turned the State into civilian dictatorship.A cheer disrespect to collective intelligence.

He said “This act is evidently contrary to Governor Abiodun’s claim that Ogun State should be awarded the pillar of democracy as claimed while giving his address on June 12. Unfortunately, he is destroying the same pillar he wanted the State to be awarded for. As a matter of fact, he has just destroyed the pillar that our great Heroes, Chief MKO Abiola ,Chief Bisi Onabanjo ,Chief Obafemi Awolowo among others  built.

“If for one week, such a sensitive and important arm is totally abandoned for mere ceremonies in Abuja, against the important things in the State, it shows that Governor Abiodun is clueless, arrogant and lack respect for democratic structure. His abuse of power and tendencies for anarchy is second to none!

“Again, he has propelled that he has interior motives to commit atrocities with tax payers money, if not, the State assembly would not be shut down since two weeks ago. He has further proven again that he does not have the operational skills, demanded of a democratic Governor. However, we are not surprised because, his level of education remains questionable till date and he has not been able to prove otherwise.

“Now that Dapo Abiodun is now running the system alone without a legislative arm, since there is no executive composition and approved advisers, it is very important for all the good people of Ogun State to be vigilant, as we must not relent in actively calling him out against running Ogun State like a one man business.

“Going forward, Ogun PDP demands that the important aspect of government, which is the legislative arm that is currently not in existence should not only be restored but also be allowed to perform its functions freely.”
