Super Eagles’ nest came alive on Tuesday evening with celebrations as assistant coach, Finidi George rejoined the coaching crew after leading Enyimba International to a Super Six win.
Still basking in the euphoria of his recent feat, Finidi immediately rejoined Super Eagles’ preparation ahead of Sunday’s AFCON 2023 qualifiers against Sierra Leone despite being owed backlogs of unpaid salaries.
Both players and some top NFF officials were excited as the coach hugged and shake everyone around.
While Finidi’s return to the nest is confirmed, the same cannot be said of irked Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu who was dropped by NFF, after the country’s soccer-governing body claimed that its decision was necessitated by the need to cut down the cost of harboring all assistant coaches for international engagement.
iwitnesslive.com’s effort to get Shorunmu’s response has come against a brick wall and it remains to be seen if the Ilorin-based coach, who declared in clear terms that he left after NFF refused to officially offer him contract papers, would return.
Super Eagles need a draw against Sierra Leone to confirm Nigeria’s qualification for Cote d’Ivoire 2023 AFCON.
