In an exciting announcement on Tuesday, Guinness World Records officially declared Hilda the new record holder for the longest cooking by an individual.
In a statement posted on its website, Guinness World Records said, “Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes.”
As per the rules for all “longest marathon” records, Hilda was allowed a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks could be accumulated if not taken, and they provided her with the opportunity to use the bathroom or rest during the attempt.
The announcement brought great joy and recognition to the renowned chef, whose dedication and passion for cooking propelled her to break the previous record.
Starting on Thursday, May 11, and persevering until Monday, May 15, the talented 26-year-old Nigerian chef, Hilda, embarked on a remarkable culinary journey, preparing over 100 pots of delectable food during her four-day marathon in the kitchen.
Hilda’s ambitious goal was to set a record by cooking for 100 consecutive hours. However, due to an innocent mistake in calculating one of her rest breaks early in the attempt, approximately seven (7) hours were deducted from her final total.
Guinness World Records congratulates Hilda Baci on her extraordinary accomplishment and welcomes her into the prestigious league of record holders. Her name will forever be etched in the annals of culinary history, serving as a testament to the power of passion and determination to achieve remarkable feats.
The cooking, which was one of the most publicized in history, attracted congratulatory messages from former president Muhammadu Buhari, ex-VP Yemi Osinbajo, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and a host of other bigwigs.
