The Department of State Services (DSS) has debunked reports making the rounds that the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was detained by the security agency.
Speaking via it’s official Twitter handle on Saturday, the agency says: “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
iwitnesslive.com reported that President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele from office with immediate effect on Friday night.
The former CBN Governor was ordered to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the CBN governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
A report of his arrest later went viral on several news handle but, the spokesman for the DSS, Peter Afunaya, revealed that Emefiele’s arrest could not be confirmed.
