10th NASS: Tinubu to aggrieved aspirants, Akpabio, Abbas remain our choice

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the candidates endorsed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged as presiding officers of the 10th National Assembly.

Tinubu stated Wednesday night when he met with senators-elect and members-elect of the APC at the Presidential Villa.

APC governors and other leaders of the party were also  in attendance.

A source at the meeting told New Telegraph that Tinubu spoke firmly on the need to work for the victory of the APC’s candidates for the 10th NASS leadership.

He said appealed to the aggrieved aspirants to work for Akpabio, Abbas, Barau and Kalu.

“He said the success of his administration largely depends on whether or not he gets it right with the leadership of the National Assembly.

“He urged them to see reason with him. He said the candidates were chosen for the stability of the nation”, the source stated.

Continuing, the source revealed that “Aspirants for speaker that were present at the meeting included Hon. Muktar Betara, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, Hon. Miriam Onuoha and Hon. Sada Soli.

“However, Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Wase and Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji were conspicuously absent, although they got invitation for the meeting”.

It will be recalled Wase had said during the House valedictory session on Wednesday that he would go ahead to contest for the speaker’s seat because Late Solomon Lar had prophesied that he would become speaker.

There is likelihood that only Wase would go to the floor to contest, while other may step down after the president’s appeal.
