South Korea also shocked bookmakers by beating Ecuador 3-2 in the early hours of Friday to set up another mouth-watering clash against Nigeria.
The Red Devils were 2-0 up 20 minutes into the match with goals coming from Lee and, Bae before Cuero pulled one back for Ecudor before going on break.
Choi later restored the two-goal advantage just two minutes into second half. Sebastian Gonzalez blasted the ball into the net in the 84th minute but Korea held on to their lead to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Heading into the fixture against Nigeria, the Koreans are at a disadvantage in terms of recovery as they played their quarterfinal clash after the Flying Eagles’ win versus Argentina, meaning Ladan Bosso’s team have an extra day to recover.
