Vice President Kashim Shettima, has said there is no going back on the removal of fuel subsidy as announced by President Bola Tinubu during his inaugural speech on Monday.
Shettima insisted that the country needs bold decisions to address economic challenges.
The former Borno State Governor emphasized the importance of implementing adequate mitigation measures to alleviate the potential impact on the citizens.
In a press statement issued today, the vice president commended President Tinubu for his leadership and courage in advocating for the removal of fuel subsidy, emphasizing that tough decisions are essential for the country’s economic transformation.
Shettima stated, “I align myself with President Bola AhmedTinubu’s pronouncement on the removal of fuel subsidy. It is a necessary step towards addressing the deep-rooted challenges facing our economy.”
He stressed the need for targeted social interventions, particularly for low-income earners and those most affected by the price increase, to ensure that the burden is not disproportionately borne by the masses.
The political figure further emphasized the importance of transparency in managing the funds saved from subsidy removal.
He called for strict accountability mechanisms and the effective utilization of the savings to invest in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
