IPMAN is against Plan to withdraw Tinubu subsidies and reintroduce lines

In a surprising turn of events, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has openly opposed the proposed plan by former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, to remove fuel subsidies.

The opposition comes as long queues reappear at filling stations across the country, reminiscent of the fuel scarcity crisis experienced in the past. IPMAN, a prominent association representing petroleum marketers, expressed its strong disagreement with Tinubu’s plan to eliminate fuel subsidies during a press conference held yesterday in Abuja. The association argued that such a move would burden the Nigerian masses with increased fuel prices and exacerbate the already challenging economic conditions faced by ordinary citizens.

Chairman of IPMAN, Mr. Chinedu  Okoronkwo, addressed the media, stating, “We strongly oppose any attempt to remove fuel subsidies without proper measures in place to protect the citizens from the adverse effects. The reintroduction of fuel queues across the country is a clear indication that Nigerians cannot bear the brunt of additional fuel price hikes at this time.”

The sudden reappearance of long queues at filling stations nationwide has caused anxiety among Nigerians, as memories of the hardships endured during previous fuel scarcity crises resurface. Citizens have been observed queuing for hours, hoping to purchase fuel to power their vehicles and generators.

IPMAN has called on the government to reconsider the removal of fuel subsidies and engage in meaningful dialogue with stakeholders, including petroleum marketers, to find sustainable solutions. The association highlighted the need for a comprehensive plan that takes into account the impact on the Nigerian economy and the welfare of the populace.

It remains to be seen how the government will respond to IPMAN’s opposition and the growing concerns surrounding the fuel scarcity issue. As Nigerians anxiously await a resolution, the government will likely face mounting pressure to address the situation promptly and alleviate the burden placed on citizens.

The nation watches attentively as the debate on fuel subsidies and the associated fuel queues continues to unfold, with the hope that a mutually beneficial solution can be reached to ensure the availability and affordability of fuel for all Nigerians.
