Tinubu may snub el-Rufai, Bagudu, Masari for SGF; to name spokesman, others Monday

President-elect Bola Tinubu may not appoint any of the three Governors linked with the position of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Iwitnesslive has learnt.

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna, his Kebbi State counterpart, Atiku Bagudu, and that of Katsina State Aminu Masari have been linked with the position of the Secretary to Government of the Federation.

However, a source in the All Progressives Congress reliably told our correspondent that there are strong indications that the President-elect would not name any of the three Governors even though they are likely going to play some role in his government.

The source said that even though there is increasing pressure from the Progressives Governors Forum for the president-elect to name one of them for the plum job, Tinubu is hell-bent on appointing only extremely competent people to key positions.

“The three Governors have been heavily linked to the position of the SGF but I can tell you that the President-elect is looking at other persons for the post. The PGF members were instrumental to his emergence as the winner of the last election and they have made some demands on him as compensation for their efforts and the President-elect is not ungrateful and promised to consider them in his government but he is keen on naming only competent people in key positions including the SGF.

“As it is, he has put his card close to his chest but he has informed the person that will play key parts already about what roles they would play in his government,” he said.

Another source said Tinubu will hit the ground running as he will make some appointments shortly after he is sworn in as the 16th President.

“One of the first posts the Prtesident-elect will fill on Monday is that of the Spokesman and Chief of Staff. He is not reputed for playing to the gallery and Nigerians will feel the impact of his government right from the first day,” he said.
