On April 17, 2021, Prince Phillip was laid to rest following a grand funeral service on the grounds of Windsor Castle, in keeping with the British Royal Family’s traditions. The Duke of Edinburgh is the 25th royal to be buried in the hidden vault underneath St. George’s Chapel, joining such illustrious names as George III, George IV, and George V of Hanover.
Prince Phillip’s casket will remain in the vault until such time as his wife, Queen Elizabeth, dies. At that point, his body will be moved to join his wife’s at King George VI Memorial Chapel.
