The First Female Bishop Methodist Church Nigeria, and the Bishop Diocese of Jos Rt. Rev. Dr. Nkechi Nwosu has tasks the Federal Government especially the incoming government administration to start making strategies and providing solutions towards reducing the unemployment challenges in the Country.
According to her, the unemployment rate in the country has been put at 37% in 2023.
Bishop Nwosu stated this while Speaking to Journalists in Jos during her First Annual Synod of the Diocese of Jos as the First Female Bishop held at Salvation Methodist church Bukuru with the theme; “contending for the Faith Jude chapter one verse three”.
She noted that unemployment in Nigeria is a very grave issue, saying it is a serious social and economic challenge that has tremendous impact on everything.
“But it is often overlooked, and when handled, it is only paid a lip service.
“A strong method of assessing unemployment issue in Nigeria should be adopted by the relevant agencies in order to determine its causes and how to adequately address it better. The unemployment rate in the country has been put at 37% in 2023. Itis disheartening to note that the high population growth rate in Nigeria is rising faster than the economy, so there are not enough jobs to engage the teeming population of young graduates.
The Female Methodist Bishop added that lack of quality education and training is a contributory factor, saying many Nigerian Youths are not adequately educated or trained for the available jobs.
She advised that a strong approach of assessing unemployment should be adopted by relevant government agencies in order to determine how to reduce unemployment.
