Golden Eaglets dedicates win to Zambian fallen heroes

By David Kabiyesi

Still basking in the euphoria of their slim 1-0 win over young Chipolopolo on Sunday, the Nigeria Golden Eaglets got emotional after the match on hearing that Zambia commemorated 30th anniversary of the plane crash that killed almost the entire Zambia men’s football team.

As the news filtered in after the match, coach Nduka Ugbade immediately dedicated his lad’s win to the fallen heroes and prayed that such ill-fated event never repeat itself again.

“When I heard about the crash I was very, very saddened because it’s a thing that doesn’t happen so often. Zambia was able to raise a team again. No matter how tough it is, the victory is dedicated to those that died and the ones living and today those that are representing Zambia in this competition and thanks to CAF.”

He then described Nigeria as top favourites to win the trophy, but maintain that a lot still need to be done if the country is to win the trophy for a record six times.

“Nigeria has always been a favorite team because at this level we’ve won the competition five times.”
