Sudan: Buses hired by FG to evacuate stranded Nigerians stop in desert over unpaid money (video)

Nigerian students stranded in Sudan were exposed to more danger after the buses hired by the Federal Government to evacuate them from the conflict-ravaged stopped in the middle of the Sahara Desert over unpaid money.

Our correspondent learnt five buses filled by Nigerian students were left stranded after the drivers from the logistic company discontinued the journey to neighbouring Egypt because the Nigerian government was allegedly yet to pay up the agreed fees.

The ugly incident happened despite the Minister of Foreign Affairs Godfrey Onyeama claiming that the government spent a whopping $1.2 million to hire buses and provide security for the evacuees.

In a video obtained by our correspondent, some of the students were seen lamenting that have been left in the middle of the desert for several hours

According to these students, the Sudanese logistics company that owns these buses is demanding more money from the Nigerian government and is threatening to leave the students in the middle of the desert.

“We are stranded in the desert in five buses. No internet, nothing we don’t have anything on us again. The drivers that parked said they won’t move an inch if they are not paid. Their company told them not to move further. It’s a directive from their company,” a student said.

The number of stranded students could be as many as 250, each of the buses has a reported capacity of 50 passengers.
