Afrobeats Musicians Seun Kuti and Peter Okoye, one half of the famous twin act Psquare engaged in a heated war of words on Social Media on Wednesday, after Seun Kuti, son of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, in an interview criticised Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
Okoye who has endorsed Peter Obi ahead of this month’s presidential election in reaction, took a swipe at Seun’s musical career, wondering how he has been nominated for a Grammy and still living in the trenches.
Seun Kuti in the interview had described Peter Obi as an internet favorite who can’t deliver Nigeria, even if he won the election and an opportunist who only started a movement after losing the Peoples Democratic Party primaries.
Seun Kuti’s Interview, did not only catch the attention of Peter Okoye, it also caught the attention of the Independent National Electoral commission which took to its official twitter handle to endorse Kuti’s comment by liking a post by online newspaper, Premium Times, with the headline: Peter Obi: An opportunist won’t deliver Nigeria— The incident caused the commission to come under heavy criticism with many accusing them of bias and being incapable of delivering a credible election.
In another development, Leaders of some Christian organisations in Lagos State have called for the removal of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Segun Agbaje over a recent comment he made during a live television interview where he gave reasons as to why people in Okota, Oshodi Local Government Area, of the state cannot get their Permanent Voters Cards.
Agbaje had indicated that the reason for the cards being unavailable was because many of the voters were from the South East part of the country.
This is coming as a video that went viral over the weekend showed an Inec official calling out Igbo names that were not found on the register at an Isolo INEC PVC collection center.
Finally, The Nigeria Immigration Service on Wednesday announced that it seized 6,216 voters cards and Nigeria’s national identity cards from foreigners in a clampdown across the country.
The clampdown is one of the steps employed by the NIS to ensure that foreigners are not allowed to vote in the forthcoming election.
