Dosu mourns as ex-Eagles midfielder Ebiede dies at 45

A former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dosu Joseph has mourned the death of ex-international Emmanuel Ebiede who died late Friday night at the age of 45 after battling with hepatomegaly (enlargement of the liver).

Reports emerged two weeks ago that Ebeide was battling with hepatomegaly and intervention from the Rivers State government raised hopes he could survive the ailment.

However, news filtered in late Friday night that he passed on and Dosu described the development as painful.

“Its so sad that he is no more despite help coming his way. May his gentle soul rest in peace,” Dosu said.

Ebiede died on Friday, April 14, after battling with hepatomegaly (enlargement of the liver).

A former Presidential Candidate during the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) elections in 2022, David Doherty, also confirmed the news.

“Unfortunately, Emmanuel Ebiede has passed away,” Doherty who opened a fundraiser for Ebiede on his social media handles, tweeted.

Ebiede was a member of the Flying Eagles squad at the African Youth Championship on home soil in 1995 and racked up three caps for the Super Eagles under Serbian Bora Milutinovic.

He played professionally in Belgium (Eendracht Aalst) and The Netherlands (SC Heerenveen) and was capped three times by Nigeria at the senior level.
