Super Eagles gaffer, Jose Peseiro is under intense pressure to invite Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom for Nigeria’s international fixtures.
The Middlesbrough forward has been in sparkling form this season for Boro scoring a total of 26 goals and two assists from 34 appearances this season to make him the leading scorer in the English Championship.
The feeling among NFF technical staff is that there should be a solid backup should Osimhen get injured, and Akpom seems to be in top form at the moment.
Towards this end, Peseito is expected to hold talks with the 27-year-old striker to discuss his international future.
Meanehile, Akpom has been shortlisted for the EFL Championship Player of the Season Award alongside Coventry forward Viktor Gyökeres who has 18 goals to his credit while Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill completes the three-man list.
