Nigeria Super Falcons made a bold statement ahead of FIFA Women’s World Cup by beating debutante Haiti 2-1 in a friendly tie on Friday.
The victory, which was one of the two friendlies set aside to help knock the girls into top shape ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand saw the duo of Esther Okoronkwo and Asisat Oshoala scoring Nigetia’s two goals.
Expectations were high at the Emir Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey with both meeting for the first time at any major football fixtures.
The Barcelona Ladies striker saw her goal disallowed 22 minutes into the match before Esther Okoronkwo put the Falcons ahead in the 40th minute
Oshola finally got herself on the scoresheet after resumption she tapped in from a goal-mouth melee Returning Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie finally had her chance when she was brought in for Okoronkwo in the 65th minute.
Melchie Durmorney got Haiyi’s consolation goal in the 76 minutes as Super Falcons held on their lead to seal the win.
