Osimhen reveals why he turned down Arsenal’s offer under Wenger

Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has revealed why he turned down Arsene Wenger’s call for him to join Arsenal at the age of 18.

The Nigerian disclosed that he was invited by Wenger to join Arsenal but had to reject the offer because it was not the right time.

The 24-year-old has scored 25 goals in 29 games across competitions for Napoli this term, putting the Italian side 19-point ahead at the top of the Serie A table with 11 games left.

Osimhen is wanted by the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea as they look to bolster their attacks ahead of next campaign.

The former Lille striker could have joined the Gunners when he turned 19 and even held talks with then Gunners’ boss, Arsene Wenger.

He said in a recent interview with CentreGoals on Twitter, “I spoke with Arsene Wenger and he wanted me to come to Arsenal but it was not the best option at the time.”

FIFA named Victor Osimhen as the footballer who holds the record for most goals scored in a single Under-17 World Cup tournament after winning the Golden Boot in 2015 championship.

The football body arrived at the conclusion during its daily FIFA U-17 World Cup trivia question.

Taking to its verified Twitter handle, the world football governing body had posed a teaser, “Who holds the record for most goals scored in a single #U17WC tournament?” asking its “He He scored an incredible 10 goals at #U17WC Chile 2015,” FIFA announced.
