PEPT knocks Obi, insists BVAS reconfiguration must go ahead

By David Kabiyesi

Peter Obi’s quest to enjoy smooth court litigation on the just concluded elections suffered a slight setback on Wednesday after Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) turned down his request to stop INEC from going ahead with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) reconfiguration, iwitnesslive.com can report

The Labour Party presidential candidate had demanded that the tribunal restrained INEC from tampering with informations stored in BVAS during the February 25 presidential election.

According to Justice Joseph Ikyegh, PEPT maintained that stopping INEC from reconfiguring BVAS would hinder the electoral body from preparing for the remaining rounds of elections.

“Prayer six has the effect of constraining or restricting the respondent (INEC) from the use of the BVAS machines for any other purpose, particularly considering the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections coming up on the 11th of March 2013.” he said
