Ogun SDP guber candidate steps down for Adebutu

The Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Ogun State, Tony Ojeshina, has announced his withdrawal from the race and declared support for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, Ladi Adebutu.

Ojeshina made the announcement at a press conference in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Ojeshina, a former Commissioner for Environment in the state said, the SDP decided to align with the PDP in the state to wrestle power from the incumbent, Dapo Abiodun and his failed All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ojeshina who was flanked by his running mate, Gbenga Oluyemi and the Deputy State Chairman of SDP, Sola Coker said, it would require the joint efforts of two or more political parties to defeat Abiodun at the polls, hence his alliance with Adebutu.

Directing members of his party to vote for Adebutu in the coming governorship election, Ojeshina said, rescuing Ogun state from the ruling APC goes beyond the aspiration of one individual or political party.

His words, “In order to take the people’s power from the cabal at Oke Mosan (Governor’s office), there is a need to collaborate across the political divide.

“Our great party (SDP) has agreed to work with PDP and other political parties during the gubernatorial election of March 18, 2023 in order to wrestle power from the current deceptive government of APC.

“We sincerely believe the synergy between SDP and PDP will usher in a prosperous time for our people, anchored on the lofty vision of making Ogun an industrious model state in Nigeria, based on the ethos of Omoluabi.

“SDP remains committed to our ideals and ethos of creating a model state. We therefore enjoin all Ogun State registered voters, as well as supporters and member of our great party, to vote for PDP on 18 March 2023.”
