The Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare, has tasked the Flying Eagles to move on from Monday’s defeat to Gambia and prepare well to face Tunisia in Friday’s third-place match, iwitnesslive.com can report.
In a message delivered by his media aide, Toyin Ibitoye, Dare who rued the team’s 1-0 defeat to their West African neighbours urged the players to shift their attention to the U-20 World Cup.
“The Honourable Minister encouraged the boys. Everybody is disappointed we didn’t make it to the final but that is football for you.
“I believe they will redeem themselves by winning Friday’s third place match.
“Now we have to also focus on doing a lot better at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia in May.
“There is very little time left but I believe the coaches now know where their focus should be in improving the team,” the statement quoted Dare as saying.
Tunisia lost 3-0 to Senegal in the second their semi-final match to set-up a third place clash with Nigeria.
