President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of deceiving Nigerians with the naira redesigning policy as the opposition insisted it was used to starve them of funds for the elections while the ruling party was provided with new naira notes to rig the last Saturday’s presidential elections.
Buhari heated up the polity with weeks to the polls when he announced that the new old notes would cease to be in circulation from February 10, 2023 except the N200 notes amid an acute shortage of the new naira.
It was believed that the president embarked on the policy so as to reduce the influence of money in the elections
But the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential campaign Council, Senator Dino Meleye, said the policy was to deceive Nigerians, accusing Buhari of providing funds for the APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu which was used to buy votes.
He also accused the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission Professor Mahmood Yakubu of abetting rigging of the elections.
President Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Mahmoud are the greatest conmen that came out of Africa; The whole concept redesigning of the naira is a deception because money was given to Bola Ahmed Tinubu; APC was given new naira notes that were shared throughout the country on election day while the PDP was starved of funds. Even the issue of going to the court of accusing Emefeiele was part of the scam; it is a grand-styled deception against Nigeria but justice will prevail at the end of the day,” Melaye said in a video he posted on his Twitter handle.
Tinubu has been declared the winner of the election after meeting all the requirements which include the highest number of votes and at least 25 percent in 24 states.
He enjoined the PDP supporters not to allow the injustice to stand, saying the party would reclaim its mandate.
“Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning the holy Book says shall we live in sin and ask grace to abound? No! I call on PDP supporters all over the world and lovers of democracy not to allow this to stand,” he said.
