Fresh facts that emerged from ongoing human organ trafficking trials of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu revealed that family doctor, Obinna Obeta ripped the family off N4.5m.
iwitnesslive.com gathered from ongoing Old Bailey trials that Dr.Obinna Obeta, in the process of arranging David Nwamini as a kidney donor for the ailing daughter of the senator pocketed N4.5m.
It was revealed that Obita had sent a bill of N4.5m to Senator’s younger brother, Dr. Isaac Diwe Ekweremadu, and that N1m will serve as an agent fee while N3.5m goes to the donor. Dr. Obeta had picked his brother Ogbonna as an agent, but all he could get as an agent was N223,000, while the 21-year-old donor got a miserable N177,100.
Jurors later got to know both Ogbonna and Nwamini were not aware of the amount they were supposed to get.
After much questioning and drilling by Senator’s barrister, Martin Hicks, KC, and the Crown prosecutor, Hugh Davies, KC, Obeta then confessed that he scammed the Senator and donor.
Hicks had asked Obeta: “you were or were you not a substantial beneficiary of the monies paid by the Ekweremadus, were you?”
.“l don’t think l did that,” he responded.
Hick asked further: “did Mr. Nwamini get any of this money?”
Obeta responded: “they didn’t know l was trying to secure some money for him.”
