I didn’t advise Buhari on naira notes, he acted on wrong counsel, says Keyamo

Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo, said he would have advised President `Muhammadu Buhari to obey the order of the Supreme Court on naira notes if he was consulted.

Buhari ignored an existing ex parte order of the Supreme Court asking theFederal Government to allow the old and new naira notes to be in circulation concurrently pending the determination of the suit brought before the apex court by the government of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara states.

The President in a broadcast to the nation on Thursday only ordered the recirculation of N200 notes, declari g that N500 and N1000 notes had ceased to be legal tender.

However, Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said the President who probably has a good intention was wrongly advised to ignore an ex parte order by the Supreme Court.

Keyamo said this when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s 2023 Verdict on Friday.

“My view is that the president acted with honesty, without intention to slight the Supreme Court but he may have acted on wrong advice. I did not give that advice.
