Violence has sparked off in some areas of Lagos State over the scarcity of new naira notes which has caused untold hardship on Nigerians.
Iwitnesslive reports that the Ketu, Mile 12 area of Lagos witnessed an eruption of violence Friday morning when street urchins were seen attacking some residents.
The violence had spread to the Agege area of the state with scenes of bonfires seen along Abule-Egba- Agege road.
Tunji Ogundimu, an engineer working with a private firm on Lagos Island and residing in Ikorodu told our correspondent that the driver of the vehicle he boarded ran into one of the streets around Mile 12 to avoid being caught in the crisis.
“There is a riot going on in Mile 12 at the moment,” he told our correspondent on the phone. “I can’t go to work again, we are stuck in the crisis, we have to hide somewhere now, we have been hearing the sound of the gunshots.”
Our correspondent can report that security men have taken over the area.
Meanwhile, in a tweet this morning, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the unrest happening in the Mile 12 area of Lagos State.
