Middlesbrough manager, Michael Carrick has showered encomium on Nigeria-English-born striker, Chuba Akpom for his scoring prowess, which has seen the Championship side grow in leaps and bounds this season.
His comment is coming at a time Super Eagles gaffer, Jose Peseiro is already weighing up his options and toying with the idea of extending an invitation to the lad. But Carrick was full of praises for the Nigerian who netted his 19th goal of the season in Boro’s 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
The win opened up an automatic promotion for the side after Cameron Archer bagged a brace in the encounter.
“I knew Chuba is talented and I just wanted him to play a position we felt suited him, that loose position where he’s not up against centre-backs.
“He’s in a great place, you can see that. When you’re confident things come freely and you have that much more time on the ball,” he told yorkshirepost.co.uk
It remains to be seen if coach Jose Peseiro would extend an invitation to Akpom as Nigeria resumes hostilities for the 2023 AFCON qualifier against Guinea Bissau next month.
