The protests and riots over scarcity of new naira notes that started in Lagos on Friday morning has spread to neighbouring communities in Ogun State.
As of the time of filing this report, Iwitnesslive can authoritatively confirm that there is ongoing protests Mowe end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The protesters barricaded the expressway and turned back motorists and travellers. They are also threatening to set Mowe police station on fire if the police try to stop them from registering their displeasure with the federal government over the issue of naira scarcity.
Apart from Mowe, the protest has spread to Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state and Magboro axis of the expressway leading to shop owners closing up and travellers and road users turning back to the Lagos end of the road.
Iwitnesslive had earlier reported that fighting erupted in some areas on the popular Lagos-Ikorodu Expressway in Lagos State over the scarcity of the new naira notes and the hardship the policy has thrown Nigerians.
On Friday morning, it was learnt that suspected touts in Mile 12, Ketu and Ojota areas on the expressway, took to the road attacking commuters and creating chaos.
Also Agege area of the city was also caught up in the rioting as protesters forced shop owners to close while motorists fled the area.
