Nigeria’s Super Falcons have surged up eight positions to secure the 32nd spot in the most recent FIFA Coca-Cola women’s world ranking. This update, released on Friday, is now available on the official website of the global football governing body.
The Falcons’ notable ascent in the rankings can be attributed to their impressive performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Despite having the lowest ranking within Group B, which included Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland, the Falcons managed to secure second place and progress to the round of 16.
Unfortunately, their journey ended in the initial knockout stage against England, where they were defeated 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a goalless 120 minutes.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, the Falcons were ranked as the 10th best team. Additionally, Morocco, making their tournament debut, emerged as one of the revelations by reaching the round of 16 and jumping 14 places to attain the 58th position.
Among Africa’s other two representatives, South Africa climbed nine places to the 45th spot, and Zambia advanced to the 69th position.
In a significant shift, Sweden, who secured third place, now occupies the top position in the rankings for the first time ever, displacing the USA to the third position. The upcoming FIFA/Coca-Cola women’s world ranking is scheduled to be published on December 15, 2023.
